Understanding our risk of dementia

Dementia is something many of us fear. Traditionally it was felt there was nothing that could be done - so most doctors advised people not to think about it while they were well.

We now know that dementia is the last stage of a disease that can start 20 years before, and is increasingly recognised as preventable in some cases, with lifestyle and vascular risk factors playing a major role.

Early intervention can significantly reduce risk.

The Dementia Package may be appropriate for you if:

You have a family history of dementia
You are worried about your current cognitive function (note that this is not a dementia assessment)
You want to be proactive about reducing your future risk

Personal Health & Lifestyle Questionnaire

Evidence-based assessment of your personal & family medical history and your lifestyle - to unlock underlying risk factors.
Vital Signs check

Blood pressure, height, weight, waist circumference, grip strength, ECG pulse rhythm & rate check.
Simple readings that tell us a lot about how your body is functioning.
Latest blood tests

Diabetes and extended cholesterol screen (HbA1c, Lipid profile, Apolipoprotein B, Lipoprotein(a)).
Consultation with your Doctor to discuss results

A 30 minute appointment to go through your results, discuss the latest evidence on dementia prevention, and agree a bespoke management plan.
Apo4E Test

If you carry the Apo4E gene you have a higher risk of dementia.
We don’t routinely recommend testing, but we can offer this test after counselling at an additional cost. If you are at a high risk - getting dementia is NOT inevitable, so if you know, you can do something about it.
